The wines:


1997 Boyer-Martenot Meursault Perrieres
Acidic Butterscotch, medicinal mineral nose with a long finish. Didn’t like.

1996 Verget Mersault Rougeots
Minerally more balanced than the Boyer, butterscotch finish. Didn’t excite.

1996 Olivier LeFlaive Corton-Charlemange
More balanced than the Verget and Boyer. Acidic with butterscotch and peach. Really long finish. Excellent!

1999 Marcassin Alexander Valley Upper Barn Chardonnay
So smooth and buttery. Oaky.

1994 Foreau Vouvray Clos Naudin Demi-Sec
Very acidic. I don’t think so. Not what we expect from Chenin. No.

1994 Foreau Vouvray Clos Naudin Moelleux
Not too sweet. Very acidic. No.

1982 Domaine Romanee Conti Monopole
Clean acidity. Medium Red Fruit. Really refreshing and tasty. Cut right through any residue from tasting the Bordeauxs first.

1978 J. Belin Nuits St. Georges Clos des Forets Cuvee Hors Ligne en magnum
Spices. Good concentration with cherries. Really good!

1985 L. Latour Corton Grancey
Very Balanced. Chewy. Nose is like Fresh Meat. Really liked!

1997 D. Bocquenet Echezeaux
Slightly bitter. Lots of fruit and concentration.

1964 Gaja Barbaresco Inferiuot
Jack liked this a lot. Very acidic. Light Red in color and very cloudy despite being decanted twice through cheesecloth.

1971 Banfi Brunello di Montalcino Poggio Alle Mura Riserva
Off – and this bottle was held back from the tasting because of it. I asked to taste it anyways. I think it was slightly corked. Very Brown, tannic and acidic. Not pleasant.

1995 Marchesi Incisa della Rocchetta Sassicaia Tenuta San Guido
Black fruit with a bit of green herbal. Very Tasty.

1937 Chateau Haut Brion
Port-like nose. Slightly sour with a sour aftertaste. Slightly tannic. Vinegary. Not pleasing.

1937 Chateau Latour
Light fruit with tannic finish. Completely drinkable. But old.

1961 Chateau Lafite Rothschild
Good fruit. Great acids. Cloudy and light brown with a tinge of red left. Light style – not a lot of depth.

1971 Chateau Lafite Rothschild
Great acids. Fuller than the ’61 with depth to it.

1982 Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou
Very sweet with a chocolate nose.Slightly over acidic but with great fruit. Still LOTS of life.

1983 Chateau Cheval Blanc
Deep fruity nose. Bellpeppers! Excellent. But not quite my style.

1979 Chateau Margaux
Slightly corked (IMHO). Very acidic and tannic which obscures the fruit.

1982 Chateau Margaux
Yum! Lots of complexity. Mouth-coating full of fruit. Balanced.

1983 Chateau Margaux
Leaner than ’82 and not enjoyable.

1985 Chateau Lynch Bages
Yum! Heavy herbal nose. Screams to be served with roasted meat.

1989 Chateau Pichon Baron
Strawberry nose. Lots of concentration. Bitter but good. Have with steak.

1990 Chateau Pichon Lalande
Very fruity but balanced with lots of tannin. Very good.

1979 Joseph Phelps Insignia
Didn’t taste. Jack did not like.

1979 Heitz Martha’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
Black Fruit Tannic monster. Lots of time left. Did not like.

1987 Chateau Montelena
Jack: Really good. Lots of time left. Very acidic with a tannic finish.

1990 Diamond Creek Volcanic Hill Cabernet Sauvignon
Very California Cab. More fruit forward and lighter style.

1991 Dunn Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon
V/A on nose, medicinal but very concentrated.

2000 Dalla Valle Vineyards Maya
Wow fruit but very sweet.

1936 Massandra Madeira
Bitter. Cloudy. Not tasty.

1936 Massandra White Muscat
Stellar fruit and acidity.

1938 Massandra Cahors Ayu-Dag
Really balanced.

1939 Massandra Kastel White Muscat
These vineyards are on the summer palace grounds. Best of all the Massandra we tasted IMHO – Spicy! Unfortunately this lot was withdrawn in the wine auction.

1947 Massandra White Port Cabernet Sauvignon
Really good acids.

1952 Massandra Crimea White Port
Brown sugar with lemon.

1957 Massandra Rose Muscat Dessert
Very delicate. Sugary sweet but like pink caramel. Very Good!
