Sonoma is awash in restaurants but nowhere to be found was good Indian food until now. Thank heavens for Pamposh. They are doing upscale Indian in a strip mall format. All dishes are available to go and what we ordered seemed to travel well.

The restaurant is nicely decorated and offers wine that actually might be drinkable with Indian food like Navarro Gewurztraminer. (A more recent visit found that the wine list had declined. - Jack) Breads were delicious. Ingredients did not seem mysterious – everything was fresh and not too heavy. Sauces seemed homemade - the Raita had grated cucumber in it and the chutney with the appetizer platter was delicious. Standouts were the Rogan Josh and the Chicken Tikka Masala. We can’t wait to eat there again this week!

Update June, 2005

After a year we regularly order from Pamposh, on average, once every 2 weeks or so. They are strong on chicken and weak on fish/shrimp. Their chicken is also much better than their lamb in my humble opinion.

The sauces are wonderful – they have a light touch. Nothing is greasy or oily. We don’t like our Indian too hot so I can only review the mildly spices dishes. At times the Naan has come charred – we usually order the Onion Kulcha as a bit burned it still tastes great. We love the mango sauce that comes with the Papads. The favorites (after trying virtually all they offer) are:

Chicken Tikka Masala

Chicken in Apricot Sauce

Mixed Vegetable Korma
(our house favorite –
we always order a double order)

Chicken Tikka Kebab

Aloo Gobi
Rogan Josh
(with reservations – the lamb is usually but not always tender)
Mushroom Mattar
Adriki Lamb

Onion Kulcha
